WORLD HUMANITARIAN DAY
Where there is crisis the people suffer, then again, where there is help, hope is found. Every year humanitarian workers sacrificially lay their lives on the line, forsaking their precious comfort to help those in need. They have been seen aiding in countries (especially in Africa), whose economies are characterized by catastrophic conditions such as natural ! disasters, conflicts, droughts, high food prices, and lack of good health facilities. Some of them are faced with numerous risks like health deterioration, loss of life and shortage of finances, and yet they still continue providing aid. Evidently some have been severely injured or even lost their own lives while in the course of duty. Humanitarian workers through compassion, bring solutions to some of the crises ! going on today. They struggle to save the lives of the hurting and wounded, provide clean water and food to drought stricken countries like Ethiopia, Somalia and Djibouti. They help governments fight for the peace and security of their citizens and fight for people’s human rights and women empowerment. On World Humanitarian Day, World Assembly of Youth (WAY) recognizes and acknowledges the struggles and achievements of all the humanitarian workers. Their great effort to bring aid is well appreciated. WAY is also playing its role by raising awareness on issues such as eradicating hunger and poverty, gender equality, environmental sustainability and many more. We at WAY also encourage volu ! nteer programs that involve in counteracting these issues. Everyone can contribute to this humanitarian attitude because people need compassion. We can save lives !
