World Assembly of Youth (WAY)
The World Assembly of Youth (WAY) is the international coordinating body of national youth councils and organisations. The full members of WAY are national youth councils. They are umbrellas for co-operation between different youth organisations in each country. They compose of principal voluntary and democratic youth organisations. They work with issues like the living conditions of youth, the youth organisations, international youth cooperation, training and so forth. WAY has 120 member organisations from all continents. Founded in 1949, WAY has general consultative status with the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations and works in close cooperation with several UN agencies including UNAIDS, UNEP, ILO UNESCO, UNFPA, UNICEF and WHO. WAY works for promotion of youth and youth organisations in programme areas such as : youth employment, environment, human rights, democracy, population, health. For affiliation, the WAY Charter requires that these national youth councils present proof of their representative nature and regular national activities, as well as their dedication to the principles of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The Executive Committee has 13 members. The present members are of 13 different nationalities from North and South, East and West. The Executive Committee is charged with the general administration of WAY and the implementation of programs drawn up by the General Assembly. The Executive Committee meets at least once a year.
